Day 1 - 2 14th February - 15th February 2012

Day 1 14th February

Have Houdini settled in nicely, have posted letter to parents.  Got the first picture of Houdini and his new mates, O & V.  Been to the real estate agent to ensure no loose strings, all set and ready to take off.  Lou has come to see us off and the boys Clinton and Mike are there too.
We head off south to Sorrento to catch the ferry across to Queenscliff.  At this point I would like to thank all of you for your messages.  We have received them but as you can imagine too much on our minds right at this point to be able to respond to them.  We will text each of you when we are more settled.  We hop on board the Ferry Heading west.  “Go West Young Man Go west.”

Johnnie these photos are for you.  And the people that work on steam trains are lovely people.  Very friendly and extremely accommodating.

After leaving Queenscliff we headed off for the Great Ocean Road. Marl I am glad you did not speak to Oscar about my fears.  I decided to put my trust in him that I would not be a nervous wreck by the time we reached our destination and I survived.  I only lost faith once on the road when the bus came around the corner and I thought he was too close for comfort.

Stopped off in Anglesea for lunch and headed on to Dando’s Camping Ground, which runs alongside the Gellibrand River, in the Otway Rangers, approximately 26 km’s south of Colac.

We were doing our first stint of camping as free campers.  For those not in Oz it is camping in a park that does not have normal camping ground facilities, such as shower facilities.  It does have toilets and barbeque (braai) facilities.  We arrived at Dando’s about 4:30pm and set up home, had a champers or two or three then made dinner, roast chicken and salad. (Must admit did not cook the chicken myself bought this in Anglesea).  We settled in for our first night.  Oscar took me to look at the stars but we did not find the Southern Cross that first night or any night there after, I guess we have been looking in the wrong places.

Day 2 15th February
Rise and shine early leave the camp site at 10am off to the Otway Fly Treetop Adventure.  Adventure????????????????  More like a nervous apperplexy.  Again had to have a lot of faith and trust in Oscar.  I kid you not it was bloody high up and at one point in time I felt as sick as a dog but did continue up. Absolutely beautiful rain forests.  By the way Oscar in all his wisdom decided I needed exercise in the morning for half hour walk, little did he realise he would have me walking approximately 4 hours and in some places intense walking upstairs and downstairs, reminded him of doing the 1000 stairs.

The walkway was 25 metres above ground and the tower was  47 metres.  Can you blame me for feeling ill?

After Leaving the Otway Fly we headed further south to the Triplet Falls

Johnnie we found a steam train for you to restore.  Here are the pic’s I can give you the co-ords but can’t help for the next year to get her out.  Good luck with that and let us know how it goes.
Chasey Ouma found all the dinosaurs in Australia.

Stopped off at Ferguson Museum, had a cuppa and headed home for the night – home being Dando’s Camping ground.  Oscar took a dip in the Gellibrand River which was icy cold.  Settled in for the night with more Champers and Dinner.
Will continue this journey possibly tomorrow.  We will load up everytime we can get into an area where we get signal for the technology required to do this blog.  Mobile Technology is very slow and very frustrating so will probably in the future publish once a week with fewer pictures.
Until the next time keep safe, healthy and happy.
O & V

  1. Gee Oscar, you have hardly been gone but done so much already. You may be right in saying it may take two years. We will follow with interest.
