Day 6 - 8 19th February - 21st February 2012

Day 6 February 19 2012

Went into Warrnambool today to do "maintenance" shopping.  We are realising that whilst this is a holiday we are still learning about this type of lifestyle.  As we meet and speak to people, they give us some really good tips which we decide to make use of or not.  Today we decided that the advise given to us from Matt and Bunnie regarding the tap spanner, water jerry and the guy ropes for the awning are definitely something that we need to invest in.  The Tap Spanner, not sure if you have noticed but in certain areas the taps handle?? is removed to stop vandalism, by kids that would normally walk past a public tap and just turn it on for the hell of it and leave it running.  The council has removed the handles and the spanner enables you to open these taps.  We also bought a 20 litre water jerry as Bunnie advises that each time you go to an area where you are able to get some water good idea to fill up your jerry,  this way you can top up you water tanks when you are back at camp.  Guys ropes for the awning are to prevent us from loosing the front of the van in serious winds.  We have not had to learn these things the hard way, Thank God, and we are now prepared for this, where as if we had not had the conversation with others we may very well have had to learn this the hard way.

So as you can see there is also a serious side to this adventure.  A true learning curve for both Oscar and myself.

Avril phoned whilst we were out and invited us to dinner.  We went into Port Fairy and had a walk around the town and a drink at the local.  People are so friendly.  Back to camp for a shower and off to Avril and Paul's.  We met Mel and Joe friends of Avril and Paul's who are down from Melbourne for the week and staying with Avril and Paul.  Again what terrific People.  Spent a pleasant evening and what a spread.  Thanks Avril and Paul.

Slept over again and learnt something else I need to ensure that we always carry an overnight toiletry bag in the car, for these nights.

Day 7 20 February 2012

Had a good breakfast at Avril and Paul's,  the boys went for a drive into town and the girls went for a walk down to the water.  Sat on the rocks and just enjoyed the environment with nice people.

Packed a picnic lunch and headed off to Cape Bridgewater.  Unfortunately as is the case in Victoria the weather turned as we left town and there was not going to be a picnic at Cape Bridgewater but we still went to the cafe on the foreshore and enjoyed a Cappuccino, took a leisurely walk along the beach in the drizzle.

Left there and headed back to Portland to the lake just on the outskirts of town for a picnic undercover.  Barbeque provided under the Rotunda.  For all you Aussies I know that is normal for you guys but for those not in this wonderful country, it is just to let you know what a civilised country this is.  Had a wonderful picnic with Avril, Paul, Mel and Joe.
Came back to camp early with the intention of doing some blogging and work for Rocco.  Made a light Dinner and got into bed to watch a DVD and slept early.
