Farewell

12th February 2012

We had our farewell for the trip on Saturday night 11 February 2012.  All the friends were there to see us off and wish us much luck.  The word envy has been used much over the last few weeks by many who I am sure would love to do this trip.  Below are some snapshots of the folk who helped us celebrate this momentous occasion.

One of the missions for the night was to enlist friends to help me hunt down a gnome in the neighbourhood.  We, Elisha and I, ended up on the same team and we spent some hours searching but without much joy.  Now I ask you with a tear in my eye, what kind of neighbourhood do I live in that there are no garden gnomes, in any of the gardens?  Needless to say we came home sometime later without a travel companion.

However my little garden gnome that you saw in a previous blog was kidnapped by two of my guests on Saturday night and I was sent an anonymous Text on Sunday morning which read:

Subject: Feeling Unloved

Hi Mum, I overheard you last night saying that you needed to find a gnome to take on you trip – What am I!? Just a little cement man from Frankghanistan! The last straw was when I saw you and your posse set off on your quest! I decided there and then to hitch a ride with 2 lovely guests at the party who didn’t just walk past me as though I was an ornament.  As you can see I am quite happy – I may return in time to accompany you - if not enjoy – Love Nelson xx see pic below to see where I am.

Needless to say Nelson did not return before our trip, he is now being punished and I hope he enjoys his year with his now adoptive parents.  At the pub on Sunday Arvo Lou said she knew where a gnome lived that looked like he might enjoy a trip.  Lou good friend that she is went on a mission of her own and decided to take matters in her own hands and kidnap a gnome from a garden somewhere in Frankghanistan.  Lou delivered Houdini kicking and screaming to my house on Monday evening and between her and Sue they named him Houdini.

So final arrangements for the journey of a lifetime has now been met.  A letter has been posted to Houdini’s parents on Tuesday 14th just prior to us leaving Frankston.

Please meet Houdini.

And this was the letter that was sent to Houdini’s family just before leaving home on February 14th.

Dear Family,

Please do not worry too much about me but I have decided to take a trip with my new found mates O & V. They are taking me around Australia and I will probably be gone for a year. I will send you pictures and letters of my adventure whenever I get the opportunity.

Please do not move homes until I return as I will be devastated to lose my family. I just feel I need to take a gap year to revitalise my batteries.

I will miss you very much, and remember I love you.

Hugs and Kisses

Houdini

Well this is us signing out till later.

O & V
