Day 154 - 155 16th July - 17th July 2012

Day 154 Monday 16th July 2012.

Sorry to report there was not much activity today.

Drove from Kununurra to a “free” campsite about 60K’s South/West of Katherine. Nearly 500K’s of driving today.

Today was a reasonably long drive with good loud music in the car and plenty of time for quiet “reflection”. It can get a bit mesmerising driving along these roads.

Cheers for now from Vania and Oscar

PS Hopefully will have more to report next time
"Houdini" crossing over from Western Australiw to Northen Territory. A well travelled little gnome!

View of the Victoria River. Could not see any "crocs" but apparently they "lurk" in these parts.

View on the way to Katherine from Kununurra. I chickened out and only did a very small part of the walk.

Day 155 Tuesday 17th July 2012.

The 24 hour “free” campsite filled up very, very quickly last night. A council worker had just emptied the garbage bins and cleaned the toilets. It was really very nice to go into a toilet that smelt OK, for a change. Thought you would all be REALLY interested in that! Simple things amuse simple minds.

Hit Katherine mid to late morning and had to visit the friendly visitors centre..  It was extremely busy as Katherine has it’s agricultural show this weekend.  It seems to me that the “towns” around these parts co-operate to organise their respective shows. The amusement vendors then obviously go from town to town.

We decided that we were going to camp at Katherine Gorge (Nitmilluk NP). Katherine Gorge is meant to be extremely pretty. I have hired 2 single canoes for half a day on Thursday morning so that Vania and I can “paddle” the first 3 Gorges in the Katherine River. I believe there are about 13 gorges in total. Keep you posted how this goes.

We set up camp. We are becoming experts in this sort of “stuff”. Each one of us has their particular chores and it all works extremely well. Backing the caravan is now fairly easy as well as long as I have “clearly” explained to Vania where we should put the caravan. Clear communication is so, so important.  I drove back to Katherine to do “business” stuff (i.e. get some more “grog” and more grog, etc…..).

Tomorrow we are planning an early morning “gorge” walk followed by a trip into a “hot thermal spring” swimming hole.

Once again sorry that there are no spectacular photos today. I have included some photos from previous couple of days that I had forgotten to download from Vania’s camera. This “blog” business is very, very time consuming. I have another 13 days to go and then it is back to Vania to maintain the “blog”.

Till next time take care in “blog” land from Vania and Oscar. Miss you all heaps!

"Sammy" the snake. We encountered this character on the walk into Emma Gorge.

Vania's "arty farty" photo.

Another "arty farty"

These guys are amazing. The white dots on their heads look like eyes, but they are NOT.

Mum and Joey came to visit us at the campground at Katherine Gorge.
