Day 137 - 138 29th June - 30th June 2012

Day 137 Friday 29th June 2012.

Woke up to another fantastic day in paradise. Sorry to rub it in all the time but it really, really is.

After breaky Vania and I went for a long, long walk along the beach. Vania is in her element picking up beautiful flat stones and skimming them along the smooth water. Hate to say this but she is much, much better than me. Not only that she has a much more powerful shoulder than I do as my shoulder was sore after throwing about 20 stones.

At one stage along our walk we spotted “something” in the water.  Not sure what it was but another couple spotted it as well so it wasn’t our imagination. This couple told us about an eagles nest upon the cliffs further down the beach. After Vania and I ventured in to have a quick swim we ventured of in search of the eagle.  To get to it we had to go around 3 outcrops of rocks and we were very conscious of the tide changing.

Finally saw a vertical rock column and the eagle had made a nest on the top. Vania and I climbed adjacent high cliffs to get the optimum photo shoot. Absolutely fantastic. I am sure it is a sea eagle. After the photo shoot it was quickly back along the beach as we were conscious of the tide. We managed to get around the last point with water almost up to our chests. Makes it very tricky carrying cameras etc…

Back at the campsite I ventured into the “hub” of the caravan park where there was a bowls rink (ha, ha, ha). They had old bowls there and I ended up playing with 3 other blokes. Must admit it was great to have a bowl after such a long time.

I have said this many a time before but this life style is GREAT. Many locals (West Australians) come to these places for very long extended periods. There caravan sites have vegies growing around, they have “fairy” lights strung up between caravans and in the evenings they get together have drinks and have conversation. Life does not get better than this!

Tomorrow we may walk the other side of the beach, or may simply relax and read a book (or have a snooze). It is all too complex. Till then take care, Vania and Oscar.
Lovely cool cave to hide in

The "eagle" is landing. I think this is a sea eagle instead of an osprey.
The "eagle" has landed. This nest was on a vertical isolated cliff where nothing could get to it.

Day 138 Saturday 30th 2012.

Woke early, made coffee and then went back to sleep (I didn’t have any appointments today). I think the “body” and “mind” is trying to tell me something.

Eventually surfaced and we decided to walk to “Barn Hill”.We missed the tiny track to the top and ended up doing a circuit of Barn Hill. Not a problem as it was additional exercise. I found one way up, probably not the right one, which entailed a lot of rock climbing. Eventually got to the top and there was a “cairn” erected there. Vania took a good panorama photo looking into our camping spot.

Came back to camp, Vania changed her shoes and we went for a walk along the southern beaches. Vania was at it again with skimming stones into the water. The sea was not as smooth as it was yesterday because there is a fairly strong breeze blowing today.

After our walk we simply veg’d out in the afternoon, grazed on some “nibbles” and getting ourselves ready for a fairly short drive into Broome tomorrow. Vania has made contact with a friend in Broome and we are hopeful we can put up our caravan at their home for 3-4 days. This will give us an opportunity to do “maintenance” on the caravan, give WDU564 a good wash and maybe have the generator serviced as it seems to be getting louder and louder. So once again take care from your friends in paradise, Vania and Oscar.

This was our visitor. Vania nearly stood on it. It was around 1 foot long
