Day 172 Friday 3rd August 2012
Well I am back, and will be taking you along the remainder
of our journey which should be approximately 13 days from now. Well woke this morning and decided that
things had gone a little pear-shaped for both Oscar and myself over the last
few months and whilst we have tried to maintain and keep a positive and happy
medium sometimes you just have to sit up and say enough is enough. And we did that this morning. No regrets from my side. I have had the most awesome adventure anybody
could expect to have, but it is time to go home.
My thanks to all the people that have encouraged Oscar to
keep blogging over the past 3 months especially Carol who has inspired him to
keep going even when he did not feel in the mood. He did end up loving it and I have had to
wrestle the computer back from him at the end.
So as life would have it decision made the wildlife decided
to give us one last show before we made our exit. On the way out of the campground in Kakadu
just outside of Cooinda we came across a Python. It had just had a meal and I think some callous
so and so (could get more descriptive but will try and keep it clean) decided
to run over the python and I think they moved it over to the side. What a pity.
I am not a fan of snakes but neither do I enjoy seeing them brought to
harm by our human callousness. As I am
now aware after my encounter with a Northern Death Adder in Katherine Gorge I
realize they do not attack you but rather attempt to get the hell out of your
way.
Shortly after, still on the Kakadu Highway, we spotted a
Water Buffalo. He was indeed a very
exceptional species. He was kind enough
to stand and pose for photos.
The rest of the journey down to Mataranka was mostly
uneventful. We stopped for lunch at Pine
Creek (No drinks) and then headed down to Katherine, where we had a drink or 2
and a game of Keno. I am getting the
hang of these games, having never played them before and having a good
companion to show me the ropes.
Onwards we pressed to Mataranka, arrived about 4:00pm and
setup our home. So we have settled in
for the night and will spend 3 nights here before continuing home.
Sorry not too many photos so until tomorrow
